QUEER ROOTS MARCH 2025 NEWSLETTER

Thank you to everyone who joined our February meeting of Queer Roots! It was our second formal meeting and it was great to work in the garden with fellow community members. 😀

We learned some great kitchen tips for gardening and we started the first garden plot to be used for growing food and consumable plants. Check out the next pages to find out what we got up to!

FEBRUARY MEETING

In February, we worked together to replant our office and house plants! Now is a great time to introduce new soil or nutrients to plants you may have had for a year or more. Giving plants new soil ensures they have all the nutrients needed for healthy new growth.

Replanting is a great way to check on your plants roots! Roots can outgrow their planters faster than one may expect and tending to roots for the same pot or choosing a bigger pot to give your plant some TLC.

MARCH MEETING

The March Queer Roots meeting will be held on March 15, 2025 at the MoPride Center at 10:30 AM. There will be water and snacks provided. We are very excited to announce that a UC Master Gardener, Terry Pelligrini will be giving the group a class on Culinary Herbs. The talk will last 45 minutes with time for questions afterwards.

Community members are encouraged to participate in whatever capacity they wish to. 🙂 Facilitators will be on site starting 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM for anyone who may want to stop by or even work in the garden. Limited garden tools are available and can be used on a first come, first serve basis. Feel free to contact the center or a Queer Roots facilitator if you have any questions about working in the garden or attending group events.

📅 When: Saturday, March 15th
📍 Where: MoPride Center, 508 13th Street, Modesto

QUEER ROOTS FIELD TRIP

Join the group on Sat April 5th at 9 AM as we take a trip to the Modesto Junior College Nursery for their annual plant sale! We’ll be going early to find the good deals and beat the crowds.

After the trip we will go back to the MoPride center and plant some of our finds! This would be a great time for anyone who is interested to add their mark on the MoPride community garden.

Whether you want to find your own plant babies, choose a plant to grow in the MoPride garden, or just wanna go look at some cool plants, join us as we go on an adventure to a local nursery!
